An investment professional for 20 years, Chris founded and served as CEO of Evergreen Assurance, which completed a merger with MessageOne, a complementary company in the disaster recovery market. Prior to founding Evergreen, Mr. McCleary was co-founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Executive Committee of USinternetworking, Inc. (USi) and served as CEO until July 2000. Mr. McCleary founded USi to deliver enhanced web-enabled business process functionality to enterprise customers worldwide through a global network of mission-critical Enterprise Data Centers in North America, Europe, and Asia. Mr. McCleary led USi through a very successful initial public offering in April 1999, a short 14 months after inception. Before launching USi, Mr. McCleary was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DIGEX, Incorporated. DIGEX grew from 60 to 600 employees, completed an initial public offering, and merged into Intermedia Communications, Incorporated in less than 20 months with Mr. McCleary as CEO.
Presently, he is on assignment with Kinetic Social, a New York-based leader in online targeted social media advertising on Facebook, Twitter and others
Mr. McCleary is a recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for software services, he was awarded the Washington Post/Newsweek Corporate Citizen of the Year Award in Washington DC in 2000 and was also honored by Forbes Magazine as one of the E-Gang Leaders of Change in the August 1999 cover story. He also served on the board of directors of the State of Maryland Venture Fund.
Educated at the University of Kentucky, resides in Annapolis, Maryland. He has three children ages 20 to 29 two of which graduated from the College of Charleston and the youngest is at the University of Kentucky, Chris’ alma mater.
